Common Lawn Weeds Found in PA

Important Things to Look for When Recognizing Lawn Weeds

There are many different types of weeds found in Pennsylvania, but the most common ones are Black medic, Broadleaf plantain, Chickweed, Clover, Dandelion, Oxalis, Spotted spurge, and Thistle. Properly identifying the weed is important before you begin the process of trying to eliminate it and curb future growth.

For the top three most common lawn weeds in this region, here is what to look for:

  • Black medic is a low-to-the-ground, spreading weed common on dry soil. Its leaves have three leaflets that look similar to the clover.
  • Broadleaf plantain has oval leaves with parallel veins. These are tough weeds to get rid of once they invade your yard! This fibrous-rooted plant tends to stick around even after consistent mowing.
  • Chickweed has smaller, more round leaves which thrive in the cool, moist area with shade. Small white flowers tend to form on the tip.

Looking to Get Rid of Lawn Weeds?

Finding a Quality Lawn Treatment Program is Key

It’s no secret that if you don’t take care of controlling your lawn weeds, the problem will persist. Instead of spending a ton of your free time trying to pull them out, why not consider choosing a weed treatment program? Weeds in general, and especially the ones that find their way into your lawn, are stubborn. It takes a professional, experienced landscaping company performing quality treatments to tackle them to the root – pun intended!

Here are a few main reasons to invest in professional treatment for lawn weeds:

  • Prevention: The point is for them to stop coming back. If your goal is to enjoy healthy grass and a lush lawn, then preventing these stubborn weeds should also be a goal as they fight for the same sunlight and nutrients.
  • Understanding commonalities: Grassy weeds often thrive in the same ways healthy grass grows; therefore, timely treatments are crucial in order to make way for the healthy grass to emerge stronger and take over.
  • Going beyond weed control: In addition to weed control, overall lawn care treatments include aerating it to break up the soil and allow fertilizer to reach soil and roots. In the end, there will be less weeds and more grass.
  • Healthy grass is good for you and the environment. Wouldn’t you rather enjoy the fresh air that is cleaned up daily by your green grass, than fight allergies and other problems caused by common lawn weeds? The healthier your lawn, the better the environment. And you and your family will breathe easier.

The sooner your seemingly uncontrollable lawn weeds are controlled, the sooner you can enjoy the season in your yard.
